Commandments for Spirituality

We are living a life of limited time on this earth, and after this short life there is another life which is eternal. Now, which life is most important and truly valuable? About which life we should think and work hard? To know the answer of these valuable questions, read this article…This Worldly Life is a temporary period of time to live in. Surely it can’t be thus that, our Creator has created us for only few years to live on this Earth and then to finish everything in death. There is an Eternal Life which will start after the end of our Worldly Life, which has no limitation of time. This Eternal Life will be either peaceful or painful. If people believe and obey Allah then they will get Eternal Peace, but if they disbelieve and disobey Allah then there is Eternal Punishment waiting for them. So, it is clear that, this Worldly Life is nothing special but a stage of our preparation for the Eternal Life through believing and obeying the Commandments of Allah for Spirituality. These thoughts make us clear that: not the Worldly Life, but the Eternal Life is above everything. And, we have to believe and obey the Commandments of Allah for Spirituality to build up a Righteous Life.   Let us, now, learn the Commandments of Spirituality from Quran, where Allah commanded His mankind that:

“Look not with your eyes ambitiously at what I have bestowed on certain classes of them (the disbelievers), nor grieve over them.”

(Quran, Al Hijr 15:88)

“… strain not your eyes in longing for the (worldly) things I have given for enjoyment to various groups of them (the disbelievers), the splendor of the life of this world, that I may test them thereby …”

(Quran, Taha 20:131)

“… spend in the Cause of Allah and do not throw yourselves into destruction (by disobeying Allah), and do good”

(Quran, Al Baqarah 2:195)

“Know that the life of this world is only play and amusement, pomp and mutual boasting among you, and rivalry in respect of wealth and children … (and) In the Hereafter (there is) a severe torment (for the disbelievers and evil-doers), and (there is) Forgiveness from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure (for the believers and good-doers). And the life of this world is only a deceiving enjoyment.”

(Quran, Al Hadid 57:20)

“… Let not your properties or your children divert you from the remembrance of Allah. And whosoever does that, then they are the losers.”

(Quran, Al Munafiqun 63:9)

Allah teaches His mankind that:

“(Who disbelieves Allah, surely) he is violent in the love of (worldly) wealth”

(Quran, Al Adiyat 100:8)

“… when they (the disbelievers) see some merchandise or some amusement they disperse headlong to it … (but) say: “That which Allah has is better than any amusement or merchandise …”.”

(Quran, Al Jumu’ah 62:11)

“… the house in the Hereafter (which Allah has made for you) is better (than any Worldly house) for those who are the Pious …”

(Quran, Al An’am 6:32)

“… the Hereafter is better and more lasting (than anything) …”

(Quran, Al’Ala 87:14-17)

“The mutual rivalry (for piling up of worldly things) diverts you, until you visit the graves (after your death).”

(Quran, At Takathur 102:1-2)

“… (O disbelievers), you doubted (in Faith) and you were deceived by false (worldly) desires …”

(Quran, Al Hadid 57:14)

“Beautified is the life of this world for those who disbelieve (the Way of Allah)”

(Quran, Al Baqarah 2:212)

“Those who prefer the life of this World more than the Hereafter, and hinder (men) from the Way of Allah and seek crookedness therein – they are far astray.”

(Quran, Ibrahim 14:3)

“Those who did wrong pursued the enjoyment of good things of (this worldly) life, and were Sinner”

(Quran, Hud 11:116)

“They (the disbelievers) know only the outside appearance of the life of the world (such as: the matters of their livelihood, like irrigating or sowing or reaping, etc), and they are heedless of the Hereafter.”

(Quran, Ar Rum 30:7)

“… these (disbelievers) love the present life of this world, and put behind them a heavy Day (that will be hard).”

(Quran, Al Insan 76:27)

So, Allah gives warning to His mankind that:

“O you who believe! Save yourselves and your families against a Fire (of Hell which is waiting for the disbelievers) …”

(Quran, At Tahrim 66:6)

“What is the matter with you, that when you are asked to go forth in the Cause of Allah you cling heavily to the earth? Are you pleased with the life of this world rather than the Hereafter? But little is the enjoyment of the life of this world as compared to the Hereafter.”

(Quran, At Taubah 9:38)

“How clearly will they (the disbelievers) see and hear the (Judgment) Day when they will appear before Me! But the Wrong-Doers today are in plain error”

(Quran, Maryam 19:38)

“Then when the Trumpet will be blown with one blowing; and the earth and the mountains shall be removed from their places, and crushed with a single crushing. Then on that Day shall the (Great) Event befall.”

(Quran, Al Haqqah 69:13-15)

“They indeed are Losers who denied their Meeting with Allah, until all of a sudden, the (Last) Hour is on them, and they say: “Alas for us that we gave no thought to it”, while they will bear their burdens on their backs; and evil indeed are the burdens that they will bear!”

(Quran, Al An’am 6:31)

“… (The person) who will be given his (sinful) Record in his left hand, will say: “I wish that I had not been given my (sinful) Record! And that I had never known how my Account is! Would that it had been my end! My (worldly) wealth has not availed me; my (worldly) power has gone from me!”.”

(Quran, Al Haqqah 69:25-29)

“Verily, those who disbelieve, if they had all (the wealth) that is in the earth, and as much again therewith to ransom themselves thereby from the torment on the Day of Resurrection, it would never be accepted of them, and theirs would be a painful torment.”

(Quran, Al Ma’idah 5:36)

“… Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell, taking away (burning completely) the head skin!”

(Quran, Al Ma’arij 70:15-16)

Finally, Allah consoles the believers giving the confirmation of their gift thus:

“… those who answered their LORD’s Call is bliss …”

(Quran, Ar Ra’d 13:18)

“Whosoever brings good (according to the Will of Allah), he shall have the better thereof; and whosoever brings evil (against the Will of Allah), then those who do evil deeds will only be requited for what they used to do.”

(Quran, Al Qasas 28:84)

“… whosoever purifies himself (by obeying and following Allah) will achieve success, and (also) remembers the Name of his Lord (through worship), and prays (regularly) …”

(Quran, Al’Ala 87:14-17)

“Those who spend their wealth in the Cause of Allah, and do not follow up their gifts with reminders of their generosity or with injury, their reward is with their Lord. On them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.”

(Quran, Al Baqarah 2:262)

“… those who obey Allah’s Orders and keep away from what He has forbidden, will be above them (who will be in suffering) on the Day of Resurrection.”

(Quran, Al Baqarah 2:212)

“Men whom neither trade nor sale (business) diverts from the Remembrance of Allah, nor from performing Prayer, nor from giving Charity. They fear a (Last) Day when hearts and eyes will be overturned (out of the horror of the torment of the Day of Resurrection). That Allah may reward them according to the best of their deeds, and add even more for them out of His Grace. And Allah provides without measure to whom He wills.”

(Quran, An Nur 24:37-38)

“… I will give (them) a good life (in this World and also in Hereafter), and I shall pay them certainly a reward in proportion to the best of what they used to do (in the World).”

(Quran, An Nahl 16:97)

“And whoever does righteous good deeds, male or female, and is a (submissive) believer, such will enter Paradise and not the least injustice …”

(Quran, An Nisa 4:124)

“… they will dwell therein (of Paradise) forever.”

(Quran, Al Baqarah 2:82)

“For all (the true submitters of Allah) there will be ranks (in the Hereafter) according to what they did.”

(Quran, Al An’am 6:132)

“They (the true submitters) shall not hear the slightest sound of it (Hell), while they abide in that which their ownselves desire. The greatest terror (on the Day of Resurrection) will not grieve them, and the angels will meet them, (with the greeting): “This is your Day which you were promised”.”

(Quran, Al Anbiya 21:102-103)

“(They will enter) ‘Adn (Eden) Paradise (everlasting Gardens), which the Most Gracious (Allâh) has promised to His slaves in the Unseen: Verily His Promise must come to pass.”

”They shall not hear therein (in Paradise) any evil talk, but only Greetings of Peace …”

(Quran, Maryam 19:62)

Thus Allah taught mankind that, we should keep Allah in the center of all our thoughts and activities, and our main concern should be the Eternal Life, not this Worldly Life.     So, let’s check some questions:

  • Is Quran teaching to think about Worldly Life?
  • Is Quran teaching to keep Worldly Affairs in the center of thought?

It is sure that the answer of these questions are, NO.

Remember Some Facts

Quran is teaching that: worldly life is valueless, but the Eternal Life is most valuable than anything; so Allah and Eternal Life should stay in the center of our thoughts and activities.

If we only prepare our future in this Worldly Life, and don’t think about the future of our Eternal Life, we will be sufferer by Eternal Punishment in the life of Hereafter. But if we prepare us according to the Commandments of Allah for Spirituality, we will get Eternal Peace in Hereafter.
