The Savior and The Salvation
Who can save us from our sins, and the punishment of our sins? Who is the savior? Who can give us salvation? Is it Jesus or any Prophet or someone else? Know the answer of these questions from the article below… Christian traditional belief is that, Isa is the Savior who gives Salvation, but Quran teaches that, Allah is the one and only Savior who gives us Salvation. Now, we will discuss about this topic in this writing. Before that, let us check the Christian Doctrines one by one:
Doctrine of the First Council of Nicaea (325 AD):
Who for us men, and for our salvation, came down and was incarnate and was made man;
Assemblies of GodChurch Belief:
… (trusting Christ, through faith and repentance, to be our personal Savior). [1 of 4 cardinal doctrines of the AG]… Christ’s suffering and death for our salvation.
Catholic Church Belief:
May benediction and thanks be always given to Jesus, Who has saved us by His Blood.
Lutheran Church Belief:
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, … ; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he camedown from heaven …
Methodist Church Belief:
We believe that Jesus is our Savior. In Christ we receive abundant life and forgiveness of sins.
Orthodox Church Belief:
Our Lord Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world, was born of the Most Holy Virgin Mary in the city of Bethlehem during the reign of the emperor Augustus (Octavian).
Southern Baptist Church Belief:
Salvation Salvation involves the redemption of the whole man, and is offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, who by His own blood obtained eternal redemption for the believer.
Christian Traditional Belief:
We know that, the sinful people who will not leave their sins before death will get an eternal punishment at Hell. The Christian traditional belief is that, if a sinner believes on Jesus Christ and his Suffering on Cross through giving Blood, the sinners sins will be forgiven and will go to Heaven. This is because, which Punishment a sinful person would get for his sins, Isa accepted that Punishment being a sinless person. So, the Sinner will get rid of his Punishment instead of the Suffering of Isa by believing on Isa and his Suffering. It means:
- Isa is our Savior who rescues us from our Sin and the Punishment of our Sin.
- Isa’s Suffering (through giving Blood) forgives our Sin, therefore, Isa forgives us.
- Jesus gives us Salvation.
Teachings of the Bible:
Let us check what the Old Scriptures say about the Salvation:
”Surely GOD is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The LORD, the LORD, is my strengthand my song; He has become my salvation.”
(Bible, Isaiah 12:2)
“The LORD is my strength and my song; He has become my salvation”
(Bible, Exodus 15:2)
“The LORD (GOD) is my light and my salvation”
(Bible, Psalm 27:1)
And, about the Savior it is written that:
“This is what the LORD says, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel …”
(Bible, Ishaiah 34:14)
“It is He (the GOD) who will save us”
(Bible, Ishaiah 33:22)
“He (GOD) is your shield and helper and your glorious sword (as your Savior)”
(Bible, Deuteronomy 33:29)
“Exalted be GOD my Savior“
(Bible, Psalm 18:46)
The Almighty Creator has taught His mankind that:
“For I am the LORD, your GOD, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior”
(Bible, Isaiah 43:3)
“I, even I, am the LORD (GOD), and apart from me there is no savior”
(Bible, Ishaiah 43:11)
“A righteous GOD and a Savior; there is none but me, (your GOD). Turn to me (GOD) and be saved”
(Bible, Ishaiah 45:21-22)
In this way, GOD taught in the Old Scriptures that, He is the one and only Savior, and the Salvation comes from Him.
Now, let us think about some more special facts that the Old Scriptures are teaching us about Salvation and the Savior:
Firstly, the Prophets of GOD were just via between Him and His mankind. They just brought GOD’s Salvation to mankind, but they were not the Initiator of that Salvation. As it is written like this:
“All mankind will see GOD’s Salvation (that Isa is going to bring for mankind from GOD, the Salvation Giver)”
(Bible, Luke 3:6)
So, Salvation comes from GOD, therefore, GOD is the true Salvation. The Prophets are just mediators to that Salvation.
Secondly, Isa came not to give a new Way but to fulfill the Way of GOD which was revealed by Prophet Mûsâ (in Tâẃrah) and by other Prophets (in Kitabun Anbiya). As it is written that:
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.”
(Bible, Matthew 5:17)
So, Isa is not the Complete Way of GOD, but a Portion of that Way. That means, Isa can’t be the Complete Salvation, but a portion of it. Actually, GOD is the Complete Salvation who sent His Prophets in different eras to fulfill the Way of Salvation.
Thirdly, not only Isa but also many other Prophets suffered for the Kingdom of GOD. So, it is not only Isa but also all other Prophets who accepted Suffering so that mankind can get rid of their Sins and can get Salvation. So it doesn’t mean that, the sufferings of these Prophets were the ransom of our life from Sin. As it is written that:
“Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor children put to death for their fathers; each is to die for his own sin”
(Bible, Deuteronomy 24:16)
In fact, the prophets suffered as they loved & obeyed their GOD and wished to save mankind from Sin. But their Suffering can’t be the ransom of our Sin. Any prophet’s sacrifice can’t give us Salvation, but Salvation comes just at that moment when we sacrifice Our Entire to GOD. This Submission of Our Entire to GOD gives us Salvation as a gift from GOD. As it is written that:
“For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgment of GOD rather than burnt offerings”
(Bible, Hosea 6:6)
“You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; You do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. The sacrifices of GOD are a broken Spirit; a broken and contrite Heart”
(Bible, Psalm 51:16-17)
So, we learn that, one’s sacrifice can’t save another from the Suffering of Sin.
Fourthly, if Isa’s Sacrifice rescues us from the Suffering of our Sins, then it means that, Isa is forgiving our Sins. But, if we believe Isa as the Forgiver of Sin then there will be no necessity of GOD as there will be no action of GOD while Isa will do everything; In this condition, there will be no need to ask help to GOD to be saved from Sin, and no one will ask for mercy for their sins to GOD. But, these can’t be true because, GOD never gives His Supreme Authority to anyone else. If you believe that Isa will forgive us, then the teaching of the old Scriptures are false, where it is written that,
“Who is a GOD like you, who pardons sin … You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy. You will again have compassion on us …”
(Bible, Micah 7:18-19)
“… Deliver us and forgive our sins for Your Name’s sake”
(Bible, Psalm 79:9)
Maximum Christian people believe that Isa will forgive their sins, as it is written that:
“When Jesus saw their faith, he said, ‘Friend, your sins are forgiven’.”
(Bible, Luke 5:20)
But, people can’t understand that, there is a difference between the sentences; “I am forgiving your sins” and “your sins are forgiven”. In this verse above Isa said that, a person’s sins were forgiven, but it is not said that who forgave. Actually no one, but only GOD forgives our sinswhich Isa said here.
There is no single evidence anywhere that, Isa can hear our Prayer for Forgive while he is not present on the earth. But the Christian people misunderstand this verse always.
Fifthly, one important thing we need to understand about Forgiving is that, we also can forgive someone. As an example we can check the verses below:
“Now I (King Saul) beg you (Prophet Samuel), forgive my sin and come back with me, so that I may worship the LORD.”
(Bible, 1 Samuel 15:25)
‘This is what you are to say to Yûsûf: I ask you to forgive your brothers the sins and the wrongs they committed in treating you so badly‘ …
(Bible, Genesis 50:17)
But it doesn’t mean that we are the Mercy Giver, but it is GOD who forgives. When I say that, “I am forgiving you (for your sin)”, it means, I am forgetting whatever (worst) you have done to me. But it doesn’t mean that, my forgiving will save the person from the punishment of GOD. The person will get mercy just then when GOD will forgive him. So, it is clear that, while we are saying “Forgiving”, it is actually nothing rather than “Forgetting”, and the True Forgiver is GOD.
Lastly, we can be sure that, Isa is not the Savior who gives Salvation, but it is the GOD, our Savior, who gives us Salvation while we turn to him leaving our bad desires and activities. It is written that:
“… I (GOD) have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist. Return to me, for I have redeemed you.”
(Bible, Isaiah 44:22)
In this way GOD is teaching us that, to be rescued from Sin we have to turn to GOD, our Redeemer, not anyone else.
Re-Establishment of the Teachings by Quran:
When the people made false thoughts among them, Allah decided to warn them again by His words. For this reason He sent Quran to His mankind and taught that:
“Beside Allah you have neither any (Protector) Guardian nor a Helper”
(Quran, Al Baqarah 2:107)
“Allah is the Protector of those who believe”
(Quran, Al Baqarah 2:257)
“… verily, Allah is with the good-doers”
(Quran, Al Ankabut 29:69)
“… Allah Promises (you) Salvation …”
(Quran, An Nisa 4:95)
So Allah says that:
“O my people … I (Allah) invite you to salvation”
(Quran, Al’Ghafir 40:41)
“… those who strive hard for Me, I will surely guide them to My Paths …”
(Quran, Al Ankabut 29:69)
“They (the disbelievers) will find no Lord beside Allah, nor a Savior”
(Quran, An Nisa 4:173)
Thus we learn that, none but it is Allah who creates the Path of Salvation, and also guides His followers on that way. So, we surely can say that, Allah is the true Salvation Giver, the Only Savior. Prophets are nothing rather than mediators and warner.
The Christian traditional belief that claims Isa as a Savior says that: Being a Holy man Isa accepted the suffering of a Sinner. So, if a person believes on Isa, the person will get rescue from the Sufferings of his Sin. Against this belief Quran finally teaches that:
“… no burdened person (with sins) shall bear the burden (sins) of another. And that man can have nothing but what he does (good or bad). And that his deeds will be seen. Then he will be recompensed with a full and the best recompense”
(Quran, An Najm 53:38-41)
“… He (is Allah who) forgives whom He wills, and punishes whom He wills …”
(Quran, Al Imran 3:129)
“Say to those who have disbelieved, if they cease (from disbelief), their past will be forgiven …”
(Quran, Al Anfal 8:38)
“O you who Believe! If you Obey and Fear Allah, He will grant you a (best) criterion to judge between right and wrong, and will expiate for you your sins, and forgive you; and Allah is the Owner of the Great Bounty.”
(Quran, Al Anfal 8:29)
This means, surely Isa will not bear our Sins for our forgiveness. People will get punishment or price according to their own deeds. If a person returns from his Sins, Believes and Obeys Allah, surely Allah will forgive the person’s Previous and Present (unconsciously done) Sins.
Now, one thing is left to say is, surely all the Prophets before Isa asked Forgiveness to Allah. As it is written in Quran that:
“Îbrahîm said: “Peace be on you! I will ask Forgiveness of my LORD (Allah) for you. Verily He is unto me Ever Most Gracious.
(Quran, Maryam 19:47)
So if Allah was the Only Forgiver before the coming of Isa, then why Isa will become the New Forgiver instead of Allah? Is Allah resigning from His Power and Acts? Actually not, as it is written that:
“… Had it not been for the Grace of Allah and His Mercy on you, not one of you would ever have been pure from Sins. But Allah purifies …”
(Quran, An Nur 24:21)
“… He is (Allah) the One who forgives (Sin, not anyone else) …”
(Quran, Al Muddaththir 74:56)
Thus Allah reestablished His teachings Quran to teach us that, none but Allah is the only Savior who invites us to Salvation.
So, let’s check some questions.
- Is Quran teaching that, there is any other Savior rather than GOD?
- Is Quran says that, Salvation comes from anyone other than GOD?
It is sure that the answer of this questions are, NO.
Remember Some Facts
There is no Savior, but Allah.
Salvation comes from Allah, not anyone else.
When we accept the way of Allah, leaving the bad ways, Allah forgives us, and gives us Salvation.
